🚢 What to know about the Breeze specifically
From recent Galveston sailings, Reddit and reviews. The stuff that's true about this ship, not cruising in general.
- It's an older ship (2012) that's aged well. Reviewers consistently call it clean, beautiful, and nicely kept. People love the scent in the atrium. Don't expect the roller coasters and giant tech of the newest ships; the Breeze wins on feel, not gimmicks.
- Two sea days on a 4-day feels like a lot to some. The most repeated critique: if you're not a pool, bar, or casino person, the daytime activity list runs thin. Good news for us, that's exactly the trip we're planning, and it's why the beach club, comedy, spa and trivia matter.
- Staff and service are the standout. Almost every strong review names a specific cabin steward or bartender. Learn your steward's name early; it changes your whole trip.
- Food is "good, not gourmet." Mains and desserts get praise, the fresh juice gets panned. This is why the one steakhouse night and the Cozumel food are worth it.
- Debarkation morning is early and pushy. Multiple people mention stewards moving fast to flip cabins. Self-carry your bags, be ready, don't linger.
- The casino is the nightlife center of gravity. If none of us gamble, our nights live at Alchemy, comedy, the piano bar and deck parties instead. Plan the evenings on purpose.
💰 What this trip will really cost (beyond the fare)
Per person, on top of what's already paid. So nobody's surprised.
- Gratuities: ~$66 (~$16.50/day). Auto-charged to your Sail & Sign. Not optional in practice. This tips your room steward and dining staff.
- Cozumel beach day: ~$65-80 for an all-inclusive club + ~$5 each for the taxi.
- Drinks: pay-as-you-go runs ~$10-14 a cocktail (18% tip already included). A carry-on wine bottle each keeps this down.
- WiFi (optional): $82-102 for the whole trip if you want it.
- Steakhouse (optional): ~$58 for one nice group dinner.
- Cash to bring: ~$60-100 in small bills for Cozumel taxis, the porters who take your bags at the terminal ($1-2/bag), and beach club tips. The ship itself is cashless.
Rough total for a moderate trip: ~$300-350/person beyond the fare. Light is closer to $180, big-spender is $600+.
🚗 Getting there + parking
Where: Carnival Breeze sails from Cruise Terminal 25, 2502 Harborside Dr, Galveston TX 77550. Ship sails 3:30 PM; arrive in your assigned check-in window (set in the Carnival app).
Suggested drop-off, since we're one car
- Pull up to Terminal 25 and unload all the bags and luggage with the porters ($1-2/bag tip, they take checked bags straight to the ship).
- One or two girls drive to park while the others wait with the bags. Nobody drags suitcases across a lot in July.
- The parkers walk or take the lot's free shuttle back to the terminal, carrying only their carry-ons.
Other ways some groups do it: everyone rides to park together and shuttles back with all bags (simpler, more schlepping), or you park first thing and walk in if the lot is right across the street. Pick what feels easiest day-of.
Where to leave the car (pick one, pre-book, summer lots sell out)
- Port of Galveston official · portofgalveston.com · roughly $70-110 for this sailing. Express Lot + SMP Garage (covered) are steps from Terminal 25; Economy A/B are cheaper with a free shuttle.
- EZ Cruise Parking · ezcruiseparking.com · 2727 Santa Fe Pl, ~$10-15/day, 2 blocks walkable, elevated + fenced, optional shuttle. The budget favorite.
- Galveston Park N Cruise · galvestonparkncruise.com · 2514 New Strand St, directly across the street, the only indoor garage option.
July note: it's storm season on an island at sea level, so covered or elevated parking is worth a few extra dollars. Book online now and screenshot the confirmation in case there's no signal at the gate.
Traffic math: plan for 1 to 2+ hours from Houston with traffic. Two-hour buffer minimum, or make Wednesday night in Galveston part of the trip.

🛳 Suggested day-one flow
A relaxed order of operations for boarding day, not a rulebook. Whoever's ready first can start these.
Suggested arrival: your assigned check-in window (the earliest windows board around 11:30 AM and beat the crowds to lunch and reservations).
- First: open the HUB app and turn on the $5 chat so we can text onboard. Start the group chat.
- If we want the steakhouse: book Fahrenheit 555 for tonight in the app (emptiest night + the free-wine perk).
- Screenshot the 4-day schedule and comedy times from the app, drop them in the chat.
- Everyone does the muster check-in (a quick safety check-in at your assigned station, required before the ship sails).
- Lunch at Guy's Burgers or BlueIguana. Cabins open around 1:30.
- Sail-away on the pool deck at 3:30. Put phones on airplane mode the moment we start moving (otherwise roaming charges).
If anyone gets separated and chat isn't working, everyone heads back to the cabin. That's always the meeting point.
⏰ Before Thursday
- Tonight: book the Cozumel beach club + parking.
- By July 8, 11:59 PM: pre-buy WiFi in Cruise Manager (cheaper than onboard). Pre-order bottled water from the Fun Shops (~$5/12-pack delivered to the cabin).
- Check now: dining time + check-in window in the Carnival app; download the HUB app.
- Julie: 🤰 pregnancy-safe recs flagged throughout, doctor's letter packed.

Money traps

- Gratuities auto-charge ~$16.50/person/day (~$66 for the trip).
- Drinks include 18% tip already. Each girl links her own card at check-in.
- Onboard ATM fees are brutal. Bring small bills for Cozumel taxis + tips.

Timing quirks
- Cabins ready ~1:30 PM. Checked bags arrive whenever.
